Green Luxury

A green and luxurious hotel? Yes, it is possible. The Green Dream environment program of the GLO Hotels make our dreams come true. We are committed to green values by, among other things, making the use of water and energy more efficient, and by reducing waste. And did you know that instead of acquiring new furniture we renovate our existing furniture as much as possible.

"Our hotels only use 100 % green electricity, which means that both lighting and water consumption aim at the best possible ecological level. In addition to the group-level policies, each Kämp Collection hotel does as much as possible extra work depending on their preconditions." says Tiina Saukkonen, the Green Key Ambassador of the Kämp Collection Hotels.

"We want to take environmental awareness as far as possible. For example, we constantly try to reduce the amount of chemicals. All the cleaning agents used in the everyday cleaning of rooms have environment labels, and together with our partner SOL Cleaning Services we have even looked at ways to clean totally without chemicals. We offer our customers luxury – but in a sustainable way which respects the environment."

The Green Key environment label means that our operation is ecologically sustainable

All the GLO Hotels have the Green Key eco-label indicating sustainable tourism. This environmental certificate of the international travel business has already been awarded to 2,400 hotels and other establishments in 46 different countries. The label tells the customer that the hotel is committed to reduce the environmental burden of the accommodation business, and that every member of the staff is doing environmental work daily.

The Green Key program is built up in an excellent manner. Their organization also is an excellent partner when we develop our activities further." thanks Saukkonen.

"It is excellent that environmental awareness has grown, both for the part of companies and consumers. Today, businesses are competing in relation to more and more accountable activities, and they require transparency and shared values also from their partners. Many take social responsibility really far."

Each towel matters

Have you ever wondered, while staying at a hotel, whether changing the towels every day has any practical impact on the environment? Yes, it has, Ms. Saukkonen answers, washing the laundry takes about 16% of the hotel’s water consumption, which is a significant energy consumption.

"From the customer's point of view, the biggest environmental act is that he/she chooses a hotel that follows green values. But during the hotel visit, the guest can also do a lot to save natural resources, single acts have huge multiplicative effects." Saukkonen tells.

Recycling furniture

An essential part of the green dream of the GLO Hotels is also that, if possible, the existing furniture has a new life in the hands of skilled upholsterers and restorers.

"It is great that old furniture is appreciated more than before." says Saija Marttila from the upholstery company Verhoomo Saima.

"It really isn’t always necessary to buy something new, because renovating and a new upholstery makes furniture as good as new, and it is even more unique after that. The best part of my work are the satisfied customers, and the fact that you can see the results of your own work."

Earth Hour turns off the lights

In March, the GLO Hotel restaurants participate in the Earth Hour event; the lights are turned off in the evening at all the restaurants on 30 March from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM and the guests will dine by candle light.

Earth Hour, arranged by WWF, is the world’s largest climate event. Putting out the lights is a symbolic gesture through which everyone can express their concern to the decision-makers about the state of the environment and the climate crisis.

Herbs growing on the hotel roof

Did you know that herbs and chili are grown on the roof of the GLO Hotel Sello? The raw materials are taken from there to the hotel kitchen and lobby bar.

And there is a lush garden oasis in the patio at GLO Hotel Art that is used for the same purpose – local food at its best!
